Seasonal Affective Disorder, SAD, sometimes referred to as "winter blues," is an mood disorder characterized by depressed mood, fatigue, lack of interest in normal activities, social withdrawal, craving foods high in carbohydrates, weight gain and sleep problems. The signs and symptoms appear in the colder fall and winter months when the days get shorter and often clear in April or when the days get longer and weather, warmer. Symptoms vary by the individual and are sometimes mild or moderate, but can be severe.
When winter comes do you:
- slow down
- need more sleep
- have trouble concentrating
- feel sad
- lose interest in normal activates
- withdraw socially
- crave foods high in carbohydrates
