Memory Loss Due to Strokes (Vascular Dementia) Screening

The second most common cause of dementia is Vascular Dementia, or memory loss due to strokes or repeated mini-strokes, also known as TIAs. It usually starts suddenly and occurs when there is impaired blood flow to parts of the brain, depriving cells of food and oxygen.

  • A sudden change in ability to think or remember
  • Thinking or performing tasks more slowly than usual
  • Trouble tracking numbers, following conversations, or paying attention
  • Weakness, numbness, or tingling on one side of the body
  • History of stroke, heart attack, abnormal heart rhythm, or other vascular disease
  • History of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar, obesity, or smoking
